I live in Windsor, California, with my husband Peter, my 11 year old twins, Ben and Lucy, and the cutest little black terrier mix named Boo. In my spare time I love to stargaze, explore volcanoes, read books, travel to far and distant lands, listen to music, and yes, play video games on the computer.
In science this year, we are going to learn about plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, the atmosphere, weather, fossil fuels and renewable sources of energy. You will be participating in labs, projects and note taking. We will watch a few cool science movies, some Bill Nye, some National Geographic and some Hollywood blockbuster hits. You will be working on projects, one that has you research problems in the environment and coming up with a solution and making a commercial for all to see using Movie Maker. You will also do some research on a volcano and present it to the class.
In math we will learn many skills that will make you a Math Warrior, someone who will master mathematical ideas and concepts. I would love to get everyone to the point where they understand math concepts, number sense and relationships. We will learn about fractions, percents, decimals, angles, graphs, triangles and other polygons and Pi, just to name a few. Believe in yourself and your abilities to learn. 90% of succeeding in math is confidence in yourself that you can do it. There will be homework every night to help you master the skills you need. The old adage, practice makes perfect, really does work.
I look forward to having you in my class and listening to your comments. I encourage you to ask questions. The more you ask, the more you will understand. Curiosity is a wonderful, essential trait for a life long learner!!
- "It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education." -Albert Einstein
- "Curiosity killed the cat, but where human beings are concerned, the only thing a healthy curiosity can kill is ignorance." - Harry Lorayne
- "Curiosity is one of the great secrets of happiness." - Bryant H. McGill
